Honoré, Russel L. “Declare World War III on oil spill in Gulf of Mexico.”  The Tampa Tribune (06/08/10)

St, Petersburg, FL– June 8, 2010–The Tampa Tribune today published a special commentary by Grand ISS Chairman Honoré on the BP oil spill in the Gulf.  As many will recall, Lt. Gen. Honoré, U.S Army (Ret.) led the federal government’s response effort for Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The General’s insights demonstrate the importance of ‘new thinking’ solutions to tackle man-made and natural challenges. In the article, the General speaks to the severity of the current situation and discusses topics ranging from government regulations to crisis preparedness to personal/ environmental security. He emphasizes why the spill should be declared a “national disaster;” and recommends creating a cooperative framework built on greater collaboration and interaction between government, civilian, and military. An outspoken proponent of disaster preparedness, the General also cites the immediate need for putting strong defenses in place before hurricanes hit turning a bad situation into a “nightmare scenario.”
